Goal: To cultivate awareness of ecological issues and sustainability in the context of their global implications.

Community Resource Center

We are going to renovate the existing farm house and turn it into the Community Resource Center. The Center will have several functions:
  • It will serve as a meeting place for “campesino to campesino” exchange where farmers from around the region gather to share ideas and strategies on issues of reforestation, farming, and sustainability.
  • The Center will also serve as an educational space for local and foreign students to learn about the issues of reforestation, farming, and sustainability. This will include a library of relevant literature in both Spanish and English. We will have illustrated posters and diagrams that are geared towards younger children that explain the processes of the rainforest. We will also have an interpretive nature trail highlighting our ongoing projects.
  • The Center will also be housing for foreign students and guests. It will embrace the practices of sustainable living with innovative green building based on ecological principles.
Education
This old farm house will be the future sight of our Community Resource Center. As you can see we have some work cut out for us to renovate this building, but we plan on having it up and running by summer of 2006.
High School Cultural Exchange Program

Starting in the winter of 2007, high school students from the United States will have an opportunity to learn about the issues of reforestation, farming, and sustainability by living and working on our finca. We will travel around to different farms, talking to farmers and local children. We will visit local schools and open a dialogue between students to share ideas and open them up to a different culture. We will also take a 3-5 day expedition to the old growth rainforests of Costa Rica’s national parks.

Internship Program

We are looking forward to working with the University of Californa Santa Cruz, The Evergreen State College, and Finca Loma Linda Internship Program to create a Finca Project Internship Program. If you are interested in interning to receive college credit or just for an educational experience, email us at contact@fincaproject.org and we can work something out. We would love to work with you.
